What is Hospice?

Hospice is a service that cares for people who are facing terminal illnesses. Often, hospice care is provided at the patient’s home. Hospice care is a team approach which includes medical, physical, emotional, and spiritual support. Hospice helps patients, families, and caregivers.

Most hospices will provide a consultation to fully explain care options and services. This consultation will help patients and families decide whether they want to pursue hospice.  Call your local hospice to see if they offer this service.

The word “hospice” can also be used to refer to the building in which a hospice operates.
